I’ve been working in horticulture since 2013, and over the years it’s become more than a job — it’s a genuine passion. Along the way, I’ve grown to love not just the plants themselves, but the clients I’ve worked with and their gardens I’ve had the privilege of caring for.

That passion started long before my career did. Growing up, our garden was where so many family memories were made — weekends spent enjoying lush lawns, tightly trimmed hedges , and playing backyard cricket under the always beautiful flowering crab apple tree. Those spaces shaped how I think about gardens today: not just as something to look at, but somewhere life actually happens.

I became a qualified horticulturist in 2017, and since then I’ve led teams and co-ran a small business. That experience taught me what a garden looks like when it’s cared for properly, with attention to every detail.

As my family has grown, so has the desire to build something of my own — a business run the way I believe it should be, with the freedom to hold myself to a standard I set. Cultiva Gardens is that business.

My focus has always been on the details. It’s what separates a garden that’s simply maintained from one that truly thrives. Going forward, I want to help other families create and maintain the same kind of spaces I grew up with — gardens across Canberra that aren’t just cared for, but lived in and loved.

Good garden care isn’t just about how a garden looks after a visit. It’s about how it’s set up to thrive for years to come. That means understanding the right technique and timing for every job: knowing when to prune for structure versus when to prune for flowering, when growth needs to be encouraged and when it needs to be reined in, and how each season changes what a garden needs. Get the timing wrong, and you can set a plant back a whole year. Get it right, consistently, and a garden builds on itself season after season.

That approach starts before any work begins. I take the time to get to know a property — its layout, its existing planting, its history, and what the client actually wants from the space — so the care I provide is suited to that specific garden, not a one-size-fits-all routine. I keep communication open throughout, so clients always know what’s being done and why, and can trust that their garden is being looked after with the same judgement and care they’d bring to it themselves.
